Violence happens everywhere, at home, school, on the streets, at workplace with multiple impacts from immediate physical or psychological injuries, to long term mental or physical complications, including death. Gender-based violence also has economic implications, it retards development of safe, peaceful, healthy and productive society.
According to the 2016 United Nation’s data from 87 countries including our country Nigeria, 19 per cent of women between 15 and 49 years of age said they had experienced physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner in the 12 months prior to the survey. In the most extreme cases, such violence can lead to death.
However, violence is not inevitable, it can be prevented. It requires a holistic approach where no one will be left behind. To know more about the ways and means of eliminating violence within our society, please don’t miss this special episode.
