Congratulations and Happy New Year to all the wonderful people of Rivers State. Welcome to 2018, our year of victory. I welcome you to this year’s first episode of Rivethics on Radio, our character-building weekend show. Please remember that mastering others is strength, but mastering yourself is true power.
Today’s episode is titled “A Year of Breaking Bondages and Walking in Victories”. Life comes with a divine trust. We were given life because we were trusted to keep it safe, sound, healthy and productive. And the only way to achieve this is to trust in the Author of life, which is God Himself. To disregard or ignore divine guidance in your 2018 journey will lead to lost opportunities and avoidable failures. And the domino effect could ripple down to scores of years later.
It reminds me of a true story of two men who lived in the same neighborhood in a big city. One of them was God-fearing and took his family to church often. He was respectful in the neighborhood and helped other members of his community as much as he could. Several generations down the line, his extended family consisted of hundreds of people. Many were notable people in society, religious leaders, industry captains, university administrators, successful business men and women, etc. They collectively made a huge positive impact on their society both economically, socially and otherwise.
The second gentleman was also a law abiding citizen, but showed no interest in spiritual matters. He was not God-fearing and did not go to church, neither did he encourage his family to do so. He guided himself by rational thinking and had no room for divine guidance in his plans. Several generations later, his extended family of hundreds of people was made up of several prisoners, illiterates, jobless men and women, prostitutes, drug addicts, cultists, all of whom made zero contribution to the economy of their State or the welfare of their community.
The point here is that 2018 could be a special year of divine intervention in our families, communities, State and our Nation, Nigeria, if we recognise the role of divine guidance in our plans and goals for this year. And generations yet unborn can reap handsomely from our right attitude and choices today.
Our guest speaker this weekend is Dr. Steve Ogan, a Pastor, Author and Poet, and he will be throwing light on the topic, A Year of Breaking Bondages and Walking in Victories. Please enjoy the episode.
