Greetings to the peace-loving people of Rivers State. This is another episode of RivEthics on Radio, our character-building weekend show. I am glad to welcome you to this episode. Please remember that planning for success is not a technical exercise. It involves a lot of common sense. Our topic today is Financial Planning for a Successful Year.
Everything that is important and significant deserves careful planning and implementation. So, we plan weddings, plan academics, plan careers, plan the week, plan the day, etc. The obvious reason is to avoid unforeseen emergencies. However, very few people engage in financial planning, mostly on account of ignorance and lack of financial education. Well, the consequences could be grave, as running your finances without financial planning will lead to wastage and missed opportunities. The great news is that financial education or literacy is a discipline that can be easily acquired. It is not reserved for financial experts. Everyone that earns and spends money ought to do so smartly. Hence the need for financial education.
Financial Planning is not reserved exclusively for financial experts and accountants to handle. It is simply bringing your financial future into the present so that you can do something about it now. It is so essential that avoiding it is like driving in the dark, with its grave consequences.
Let us look at some simple examples of common sense financial planning:
• Having multiple streams of income instead of just one or two streams of income.
• Reading books of people who are financially successful to learn some tips and tricks that could work for you.
• Deciding to not use your parents as your emergency financial plan or your children as your retirement plan. You have to have your own plan and diligently implement it for desired results.
Our goals can only be reached through the vehicle of a plan in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. The goal is the destination and the plan is the vehicle for the journey to the destination. It is easy therefore to see how important the plan is. Without it, the goal is just a mere wish.
Let us listen to our guest speaker as she explores the subject, She is Mrs. Christy Eze, a lawyer and the Chairman of the Rivers Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Nigeria (ICSAN). Please enjoy the episode.
Our warm and loving people of Rivers State, please remember to always let your manners speak for you.
God bless and keep you and your families and God bless Rivers State.
